That's a good question, because Ive been wondering the same thing. "Supposedly" we have one, that's not allowed to be cut down because its "rare," but I cant find a picture that looks anything like it. As of right now, all its doing is giving free access to the roof of the house. Its tall and lengthy, scrawning looking as if it grew as a weed into a tree. The bark is very pale. Its kind of ugly looking, to be honest. Hahah. If you find out, email me at sofaraway89@juno.vom
Walnut trees are usually distinguished by the walnuts that grow on the the branches. The hard walnut shell is covered by a green husk that turns black after falling off and laying on the ground. The leaves of the walnut are smallish and shaped like ovals with a point at one end. These leaves are arranged on a stem with the leaves coming off at both sides.
A walnut tree looks like many other trees except for the fact it grows walnuts. Here are some links, 1 of a walnut and 1 of a walnut tree. Walnut trees come in many varieties and are cultivated for timber as well as for their edible nuts. Commonly, the tree is simply called "walnut", which is a plant from the genus juglans which has 21 species, each with it's formal Latin name.
The walnut's various species are widespread ranging from Japan westward to the British Isles in the Old World (Asia and Europe) and are also found in the America's from Canada, in the north, as far south as Argentina.
Black walnut trees start as seeds, which slowly grow into trees. These trees, once fully grown, then reproduce, growing new seeds, which then starts the process over again.
Anywhere from 30ft to 130ft depending on species.

Rootstock and scion refer to grafted plants and trees. The rootstock is the bottom half that goes into the ground; the half that will lay roots. The scion is part of a different plant that is going to be grafted onto the rootstock. Grafted plants generally take on certain characteristics of the rootstock plant, but will physically still be the scion plant. An example of this can be seen in walnut trees. The black walnut tree is a sturdier and disease-resistant, making it a great rootstock plant. The English walnut tree, however, produces tastier walnuts. Therefore, the English walnut tree is grafted on top of the black walnut tree creating a sturdier and more disease-resistant walnut tree.
