Oil tankers vary in size from a few thousand tons to the biggest of the big - the Jahre Viking. She was pulled from service in 2004 and became the Knock Nevis, which is a floating oil storage facility. No moving man-made object has ever been so large. While still operating as a supertanker, she went through a refit that actually made her bigger. The ship had an overall length of 458.45 metres (1,504.1 ft) and a draft of 24.611 metres (80.74 ft). Her 46 tanks hid under 31,541 square metres (339,500 sq ft) of deck area. She could not even operate in the English Channel, let alone any of the modern canals, like Panama or Suez.
