I don't' think that a 16 yr old CAN leave. Unless it is allowed by the law for a 16 year old to be allowed to leave the home and be on her own. Other than that rule, there isn't a way for you to go, unless you have a job, car, place to live and are able to take care of yourself, then you could go and get yourself emancipated by the courts with probable reason.

i think 16 year old should be able to leave home if they have a steady job with money coming in and a place to stay if he/she hasn't got a place of their own yet and that they are close to getting a place of their own they SHOULD BE ABLE TO LEAVE HOME AT 16 YEARS OLD.GET IT REAL!!!!!

I see a lot of questions similar to this. The fact is that anybody can leave their parents house when they're big enough to do so. The police in most state will not force the teenager to return home against their wishes. They might take the teenager into custody if they are in danger where they have decided to go.

Teenagers leaving their parent's for another home is considered a status crime by the police. They might ask the kid to go home, but will not force them. It is not until the parents file a court action and convince a judge that it is in the best interests of the teenager to be returned home, and get an order for the police to take the teenager into custody and return them home, will the police actually make you go home.

Some states may be different (in Idaho in the early 1970's police would forceably return any runaway under the age of 18). Call your police department and ask what they would do. I went and talked to mine today and they told me what I wrote above. I inquired because my sister in another state could not get the police to return her 15 y/o daughter who decided to live with her friend and her parents.

In Pennsylvania, it is no ones right to be emancipated. In fact, pretty much no judge in the entire state will do it. Especially if the only reason you're moving out is to live with your boyfriend. You have to have reasonable cause. However, the police have expressed the fact that it's not their responsibility to go and reobtain the child, either. I would seriously consider this before you consider leaving home. To even have a judge consider being emancipated in this state, you have to have a job and be self-supporting. That means you can't accept anything from your immediate family. This also means that if you are considering dropping out of school, I can almost guarantee you won't be emancipated, because it shows you are incapable of acting in your best interests. You also have to show proof you're paying half the rent with your boyfriend. You have to have a steady job, attend school and have means of supporting yourself without outside help, and without asking for hand outs from the government. If this is really important to you, and you're sure it's worth it, then I'd say go ahead and do it. If for some reason, however, it is decided you are incapable of providing for yourself and living with your boyfriend is a danger to you, the police will come get you and you will be put into a foster home for a year, there won't be any going back to your parents if they take this to court and you lose. If you run away it shows they can't handle you, and you become a ward of the state.

it is called emancipation.in which case the minor has to prove that their parents are unfit and that they or another family member can provide them with alternative living space and neccities.in other words,you can emancipate yourself if you can prove your parents unfit and you can make your own living and provide for yourself.
