Cockroaches have been proved to survive a nuclear bomb.

The above answer is inaccurate.

This is the correct answer from Wikipedia:

Cockroaches do indeed have a much higher radiation resistance than vertebrates, with the lethal dose perhaps 6 to 15 times that for humans. However, they are not exceptionally radiation-resistant compared to other insects, such as the fruit fly.[21] The cockroach's ability to withstand radiation better than human beings can be explained through the cell cycle. Cells are most vulnerable to the effects of radiation when they are dividing. A cockroach's cells divide only once each time it molts, which is weekly at most in a juvenile roach. Since not all cockroaches would be molting at the same time, many would be unaffected by an acute burst of radiation, but lingering radioactive fallout would still be harmful

If being 15-20 miles away from the zone of action and maybe under a concrete floor, then it would be pretty safe.

----

No a Cockroach can not survive a nuclear bomb because everything in the blast area would get fried anyway.

I watched "Myth Busters" and they tested it to see if Cockroaches could survive the radiation.

They tested "Flower beetles", "Fruit flies" and Cockroaches. Cockroaches can't survive nuclear radiation.

----

One thing is for certain though.

A Cockroach would be able to survive a lot more radiation than us humans.

Where we humans would die off like "flies" it would only be a moderate "sun bath" for the Cockroach..

We measure radiation in REM (Roentgen Equivalent Man) of which is the unit of Dose. During a lifetime, a normal human being get exposed to a little bit less than 20 REM, this compared with between 400 to 1000 REM that might/will kill. 800 REM is concidered a kill dose for most humans, although it is a slow and agonizing death.

Reports regarding Cockroaches and radiation are at best contradicting.

Some studies show that they get reproductive problems at 1200 REM and get killed off by 6000-8000 REM.

Other studies show that Cockroaches can stand 10 to 20 times as much radiation.

The difference and reason to this could be that journalists or writers doing the story does not know or disregard the difference between REM and RAD (Roentgen Absorbed Dose).

Mythbuster is a great show explaining a lot of different problems from various angles.

It is still crude even though they are almost always correct in their assumptions.

A cockroach is more resistant to radiation than other animals and is more likely to survive beyond a certain radius. However, within a certain radius of a nuclear explosion any living thing would be incinerated.

No they c They can survive the radiation created by a nuclear bomb. However, if within the blast radius at the time of the explosion itself, they would die. yes they can yes they can It also depends on how much radiation they are exposed to, because after a certain point the radiation will kill them to. And actually the Fruit Fly can endure more radiation than the cockroach can.

Yes. Generally when you do a posion gas spray it could make you sick and kill you. A few years ago, we had our house tented and sprayed. We left all of our pets in their carriers inside the spare bedroom and only the dog and one cat died. Since then I've bought small cans of bug bomb and was able to finish the two other cats. Hope this helps!

Can bugs like insects such as cockroaches survive nuclear bombs?

There is a possibility for a cockroach to live and die. A cockroach will die from the initial blast, meaning the cockroach will die from the fiery explosion. A cockroach will survive the radiation of the blast, but not the actual blast itself.

Why do a cockroach survive a atomic bomb?

Not all of them survive! But they would survive better than we would. There organism - body build - is smaller than ours and therefore making us more suseptable to the radiation than the cockroach They say that a cockroach will live through a atomic bomb, but if the atom bomb was to hit the cockroach or if it were to go off above the cockroach it would did nothing will live around where the bomb goes off even a cockroach.
