How could a TV turn itself on when no one is home or in the middle of the night?

This may sound simple, but does it have a timer/alarm feature on it? I had the same problem and it was the timer. It had been accidently set by the kids pushing buttoms. Once we went into the menu and disabled the on/off timer, the problem was solved.
If your TV has a remote control, try replacing the batteries.
When my batteries start to die, the remote sometimes does things on its own (change channels, adjust volume, or turn off).
Being a Electronic Technician, I have seen Sets that have a 1ohm resistor in the circuit that has changed value, and will contribute to this problem..Just one of those things to look for..And probably the most common,if not a remote malfunction. keep remote in another room when going to bed, and make sure the timer isn't set on your tv...if it again turns on by itself, suspect a resistor problem.

you either set a timer for your tv to be shut off before you left or your house is haunted. those are the two options.
I, too, am baffeled at the fact that my tv has been doing this for a week now. I will put my kids to bed and the hubby goes to work. between 8:30 and 8:45pm every night the tv will turn itself on and there is no one in the room at all. It doesn't matter what channel i have had it on prior to turning it off it will always be on channel 3 USA. Does anyone out there have an explanation for this? this is weirding me out. there is no timer or time set on this tv at all.
