How can boom towns turn into ghost towns?

Answer:
So a boom town is created when a large amount of people move to a single location, often to exploit a natural resource. The gold rush is a good example.
Then when the mineral or other reason to be there disappears so do the people.
They leave behind the buildings creating a ghost town.
