In a pail put approx. 1/4 cup of Witch Hazel (can be bought at any drug store) and a couple of squirts of Dawn dish soup. Take very SOFT steel wool, gently scrub and wipe up with clean warm water and towel. Hopefully this works for you...i have tried it and it works GREAT! GOOD LUCK!!!

You can have the leather cleaned commercially, or you can put it someplace where it can air for a period. Most of the smell is in the padding, which sucks in smoke like a bellows when you get out of the chair.

Get ready for a lot of work! Right now your furniture probably smells bad and the finish just looks a little cloudy. However, once you start cleaning it, the layer of smoke will smear and the only option is to finish cleaning it. You'll need a lot of paper towels during this process. Two cleaning agents work well for this. The first one is 409, but the smell is very strong in the amount you are going to use. The other chemical which works well is an emulsified oil glass cleaner. These are the ones which come in a spray can and turn a foamy white when applied. I would choose these because the smell is much more tolerable. Work in sections and use a lot of product. It's okay to make it wet because you're wiping it right off. When you are finished cleaning the whole piece, allow it to dry. The next step is to polish the finish. Paste wax is your best choice. Rub on a thin coat and allow it to dry, then buff. If you have areas which are dull, spray on a thin coat of lacquer from a spray can -- it can go right over the paste wax. If the finish looks pretty good and you want to save some time, Pledge it instead Caution: I've done this on furniture where the finish is about 80 years old and in good shape. If your furniture has a finish that's mostly gone, I would just refinish it.
