In hydroelectric plants, it is the weight of water that us used to generate electricity. Since energy is required to elevate water from the surface of the earth (i.e. electricity/gas for a pump, or the suns energy in the case of rain clouds), energy is given when water is returned to the earth. Hydro electrics plants make use of this energy by placing turbines at junctions where water undergoes a severe elevation change (i.e. a waterfall). As the water falls, it hits the blades of the turbine and the momentum of the moving water causes the blades to spin, the turbine axle is connected to an electricity generator which produces electricity. yes it is cool

water can be boiled in a open container until steam comes out the top which is energy. if the steam is properly handled like in the old steam engine trains can easily become energy because it makes the train move

Usually by means of a water turbine. These devices are like highly complex water wheels (spun by falling water) that are coupled to an electrical generator.

It is never water itself that generates electricity, but rather the movement of water.

The most common way to generate electricity from running water is to dam a river and allow it to spill through a channel, turning a turbine as it runs (think a larger and more efficient waterwheel). The rotation of the turbine turns a conductor inside a large magnetic field, which drives current through the conductor (i.e. generates electric current).

This again depends on the pressure of the water. Low pressure is insignificant in this case.

Another way is to build tidal barrages, which use the tides to generate electricity.

hydroelectric A2Moving water is used to turn turbines or large generators. Except for solar power, all other ways of producing electricity (coal, gas, oil, nuclear, wind) use this same procedure of turning generators. So generators are one of the most important discoveries of our modern age.
