Awakening the Sacred Power (the Serpent) and Evoking the Comforter (Adi Shakti); a Westernized approach to Kundalini.

You will need to be familiar with the 7 principle Chakras & their location; Wikipedia or Google will quickly help out with this.

The Westernized system I studied referred to the Chakras as Minds or Centers.

The Serpent lies coiled (3½ coils) in our Sacrum Bone between the 1st & 2nd Chakra. "Sacrum" means "Sacred" in Latin, this is NOT just a coincidence, and it forms a downward pointing triangle. It turns out that Esoteric Knowledge lies hidden all around us, but that's what "Esoteric" means isn't it?

It is going to take a while and practice, practice, practice to awaken the Serpent.

The Universal Energy of Life ("Use the Force Luke!") enters and leaves the body through the soles of our feet.

Its ebb and flow is synchronized with our breathing but in reverse to what you might commonly imagine.

It enters when you exhale and leaves when you inhale.

It helped me to imagine that filling the lungs pushed it out & emptying them drew it in.

Develop a slow consistent measured rhythm; inhale slowly, pause, exhale slowly, pause & repeat.

The trick lies with our intent and in our imagination & our ability to visualize or pre-visualize (Seeing with the Minds Eye).

Our imagination is a tool but in the uninitiated (most folks on the planet) it is likely an undisciplined & cluttered chatterbox, you'll want to work on that. You be developing your "Will" as in "thy Will be done."

You don't want to be distracted with worries, emotionally agitated or fidgeting around.

Consider this following practice to be a meditation and it will help.

You'll want to be lying down flat on your back, arms to you side, OR sitting in a chair OR sitting in the Lotus position if you prefer, or even can (I've never been able to myself, my muscles are too bound by advanced glycation end products).

Start out by taking 3 measured breaths and with each breath imagine the energy entering through the soles of your feet , rising to the 1st Chakra and filling it, then flowing back out and leaving through the soles of your feet.

Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st and into the 2nd.

Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd and into the 3rd.

Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and into the 4th.

Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and into the 5th.

Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and into the 6th.

Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and into the 7th.

That make 7 sets of 3 breaths each.

All this time you've been imagining the energy entering, rising, filling, descending & leaving through the soles of your feet.

But now with the next 3 breaths you'll imagine the energy leaving by cascading out of the top of your head (the 7th "Crown" Chakra) instead of being pushed back down and out the soles of your feet. Imagine it as though it were a fountain spraying up, out, down and around your body forming an egg shaped protective cocoon around you.

The Crown Chakra lies just under the Fontanelle, the soft spot on top of newborn babies heads. "Fontanelle" means "Fountain" in French, again this is NOT just a coincidence.

You'll now effectively be pumping this energy up through your feet and out of your crown then down and around and back up into your feet again, over & over again in a continuously flowing cycle.

After the 3rd breath you may continue with this cycling for as long as you like (for a total of 7, 13 or 21 times perhaps or some other sacred number) OR start the exercise all over again OR stop here and practice it again the next day.

So far this is NOT the energy of Kundalini but the Universal Energy of Life.

By practicing this you'll be developing your imagination and intent.

You'll also be visualizing, clearing and opening the path that the Serpent will take.

A note here about the Universal Energy of LIfe. It's always sort of "trickle charging" our own "battery" which is the "Root" or 1st Chakra. Our battery has a certain capacity and if it is ever completely depleted we die (just the same as riding a horse to death - it's interesting that they'll let us do that but that's what having dominion means). The Energy, once stored in our battery, can be used coarsely (low frequency, high amplitude) or refined (high frequency, low amplitude). ALL negative emotions, actions and thoughts are coarse and quickly consume our energy. Surely you've noticed how exhausted you can feel after a bout of anger or frustration or under other negative circumstances. The higher up the Chakras ("The Tree of Life") you wish your energy to ascend the greater the "charge" must be and the more refined it must be to do so. "Right Living" & "Right Actions" & "Right Thought" will really help out with the "refining" process and help in conserving your energy for "higher" purposes.

At some point, when you're clear enough, the energy will be flowing freely and vibrating fast enough to awaken the Serpent and it will follow the flowing energy and ascend through your Chakras with it. It may not ascend all the way at times due to blockages or because your own energy is insufficient or vibrating to slowly that day but keep practicing and the Serpent itself will now help clear these out. "...straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

You'll be able to feel your Chakras opening under the Serpents influence as it ascends, like flowers opening to the warmth of the morning Sun (it's not for nothing that the Chakras are shown as many petaled flowers in Eastern art) and they may start "singing" each with it's own distinct note. Your heart Chakra will radiate as though the Sun has risen in your chest, the warmth is remarkable. At some point you may start grinning like a love struck idiot. And with the opening of your 6th & 7th Chakra the Comforter (the Paraclete, Mah di, Adi Shakti, Ma Treya, Aykaa Mayee, otherwise known as the Holy Spirit) will descend upon and come over you. Very similar to being held in the arms of your father as a young child without a care in the world.

The more you practice the more frequently you'll be able to evoke this and the longer the duration will last.

After a year or so of working on getting clear, that is working on my imagination (Raja Yoga) and feelings (Bhakti Yoga) and with some familiarity with "right breathing" or breath control (Prana Yoga) I was able to evoke the Serpent after about 3 more months of using the above technique. Note that I did NOT specifically practice these yogas as they are taught and practiced in the East but simply worked on being a mature, responsible, adult human being in right living, acting and thinking as such.

Note that a VERY good place for Westerners to start practicing "Right Living, Acting & Thinking" is while driving. If you find yourself cursing out those around you, acting impatiently or getting frustrated and angry, guess what, you've got work to do. Then look to your home and workplace for similar circumstances because family members, bosses and co-workers often "push our buttons" - this is what's alluded to when it is said that others are here to teach us. And don't forget about the Barista at your local coffee shop and all the other clerks and agents we all have to deal with.

This is NOT a Doctoral Presentation nor is it meant to be a MacDarmas Drive Through to Enlightenment but it is rather an introduction to the possibilities that worked for me and may work for you as well.

Namaste and God Bless. -Hunab Ku

In yoga we have to impose some discipline upon ourselves in order to reverse the flow of prana and other energies so as to directly activate all the psychic centres in turn. For many thousands of years we have not done this, probably. Just like a river that rushes with tremendous force along a valley created by geological erosion, it would take quite some effort to redirect this along another predetermined route. Of course, once that new route is finally laid the current begins to flow smoothly and unimpeded again.

The more advanced practices in Kundalini yoga are intended to cause a full rise of Kundalini. This is a very much shorter, but more dangerous path, to God-Realization. These advanced methods should be practiced under the direct supervision of a Master of Yoga who fully understands the full implications of such practices. One needs to be an adept at yoga before even attempting such practices.

Then we have the intermediate practices of Kundalini yoga which are designed to give the sincere aspirants the key to true Meditation. These are a lot less dangerous than the quicker methods but should be practiced within the framework of a balanced lifestyle and mental discipline or one is liable to develop an unbalanced oversensitivity. That is why these practices are not recommended to those people with mental health issues. With these practices one can cause a small amount of Kundalini, herself, to rise through sushumna but not a dramatic rise of kundalini in her entirety. One can still enter the deeper states of Meditation as a result of this. Such practices do not require the supervision of a Master of Yoga but certain qualifications are normally required of the aspirant wishing to learn the techniques. The yogi should live a balanced, healthy lifestyle and treat these practices with the greatest reverance and according to the instructions as laid down by the master.

Then we have the basic Kundalini practices which are the safest practices and tend to cause a small rise of kundalini or more commonly her auric radiations to rise within, in a very slow but surer manner. These consist of those techniques which anybody can practice without the imposition of yogic injunction.

Among the safe, balanced practices which will definitely cause a slow but definite rise of Kundalini are:

Prayer.

Mantra.

Spiritual Healing

Meditation

Contemplation

Selfless Service to others

Everyone is an individual it will happen when it's the right time and don't fret that you can't do it or did it once but can't seem to do it again..I'm no scholar but i'd say that bakti yoga which is total devotion to supreme (braman) and or god(personality of god) and karma yoga which is devotion to loving service for all life forms, doing selfless good, it's not selfish to want to feel good though, i'd say karma and bukti are more important in kundalini than pranayam, prana is your energy(your kundalini is made of prana),your life, to take each breath you're claiming your right to life even though life is a mystery seemingly frought and precarious you still go on breathing, sometimes depriving oneself of air, food etc can heighten awareness. the bottom kundalini is feeling good, kundalini is the absolute greatest feeling beyond comparison you cant have a bad trip because you will realize how special and unique and blessed and loved, irreplaceable and important you are to the divine and information will pour into you information is a gift.there are powers you will get as a result of kundalini awakening and you may not be able to handle them out in the real world as everything will be different for you once you become enlightened.as a vessel for god you will do amazing things and be like god you'll feel complete in knowledge and may feel compelled like you know what to do without having to think.God will speak to you and you wont have a doubt when you hear the awesome voice of the light that lives and moves and speaks you will know no joy like joining together to worship god, as brilliant white and gold living light embraces you with love this is who you are where you're from and on earth you have a mission to humanity to spread light and you'll be given all you need it matters not what you can and cant do before kundalini awakening/self realization you'll be given all you need for the task and magic happen when the spirit of god is upon you all is possible for god,a voice from the sky would convey your message if gods will was yours that people hear it but just because kundalini makes you act with divine knowledge/power doesn't necessarily mean other people will receive it well, in fact they probably won't, its important when you're awakened that you keep it together and don't wind up in a bad situation, though you're receptive to gods will,, you're also likely receptive to everyone else's and you may consider of solitary prayer as well as well as missions for god so as not to go off track.god a real world force in every single atom is all of spiritual reality like paramattma and jivaattma the heart of god and your own heart are and have been eternally close always. though you may not remember the many lifetimes but remembering your deep relationship with god can access knowledge of the past if thats whats best, the important thing is your closeness to god and the world.you want the real world to reflect heaven;everyone in harmony sharing and giving and glorifying, when you feel that in your life, when your friends look out for you and you care for yourself and you feel like your really giving something to your friends community etc you're getting positive reactions this is how life's meant to be and when youre content you begin to allow kundalini to move more freely starting in your tummy this energy of your true self moves up to your head when you link with parramattma (god present) and when at you head you will see the truth and may go higher still,to space, and looking upon the universe (thousand petal lotus) you will be filled, as the energy went up (and up) so it pours down like rain.so in conclusion if you want kundalini- practice loving god (dont trust all you hear) and doing good..its not rocket science haha
