(kind of obvious, I know) but if it isn't any longer in business under that name, or has been absorbed into another financial institution, contact whoever you've been sending the mortgage payment to to find out how to clear the mortgage. One thing you can be certain of, SOMEBODY owned the mortgage, and it's out there somewhere.
