How can you find a major film company to produce or distribute your movie?

Answer:

Networking!

If you are talking about a script... first off, its a long journey ahead! But second, never give up. It is all in persistance and connections. If you have the "Skill" and your script is good, it is still hard to get a producer. Welcome to Hollywood! Its one of those things like "You need a car to get a job, but you need a job to get a car?" Your going to have to get a Agent at some point. It is most desired first, but they don't always get it done for you either, but while you are pitching your script or movie to all the Producers, best be pitching to all the agents along side the efforts! Just how it goes for Hollywood. But I think that if you have talent and you wrote your script in the correct format (Format is VERY important!) Then you stand a chance. That is first. And to add to the point about format, I am fully aware that Producers, Directors, "Readers" do not read further if when their eyes "look" at the script and the format is even slightly off. It is known in Hollywood this means "you are an ammature and high risk for an investment." Usually it gets denied or tossed. So make sure you have the skill of format down! After you have story and character talent going for you, along with format mastery.. then you are WELL on your way. Now it is just a matter of hitting the right connection. Enter "Networking," Networking," "networking!!!." Learn how to Network yourself. Makes friends even with the little people. You NEVER know. Establish connections and keep them established- even after you have climbed higher than their status in the loop of your goal, because to forget them is a huge mistake. A grave one for your career. Now, networking can be difficult if you are a shy person or a hermit. But you will need to do this. Unless you get lucky like the Writer of "Basic Instint" or "Little Miss Sunshine." But the chances on that are slim, so don't fool yourself. Be as realistic as possible yet always a dream warrior! Its a fine balance but one that is worth it when you finally do get a foot in the door. Another suggestion if you want to do Hollywood - is live there! But if you don't want that, there are still ways to do it without living there. It may go slower, but it can be done. OR.... you can find other avanues; like Independent films and that whole network. Or find the funding ourself and Produce it all yourself!!! Or hit up the up and coming Foriegn connections; like India. Next to Hollywood there is popularity and less expensive resources in other countries- India being on top. The foreign link I am not joking about. It can at least give you experience and portofilio. Then there is the suggestion of getting "Creative." Like I have done. No, I don't have any films done, but I have had scripts taken in due to my creative ways of allowing them to discover me. ;-)Let's just say sometimes it pays off to work from the bottom up. Even being a secretary in a producer's office can bring many, many connections and opportunities. There are ways like making friends with someone who gets into all the hot spots (Like a DJ or Promotion worker, etc.) and then they get you in, and you can guess the rest from there. I will give you one Extremely successful story on someone who did this... Madonna! In New York she had her sample song, and she knew a DJ and she popped her song in one night while distracking him. And its all history from there. One of my one Act plays got produced because it was in the "right" place at the "Right" time, and looked like an accident... *Smirk. This is all I can advise for you now, so best of luck- break a leg! ;-)
