Either locate the original contractor who built the house or try contacting your county building inspector's office. Even some subcontractors who worked on the house may potentially have a set.

go to the court house theyre on public record in the recorders office

Another Perspective

in many areas blueprints are generally defined as architectural plans or technical drawings. Ground surveys of real property are recorded in the land records but architectural plans or technical drawings are not generally recorded. Although many older land surveys have white printing on a blue background they are not generally referred to as blueprints in some areas. Modern recording systems often require that surveys for recording be printed on mylar.

If you want to see the architectural plans for a structure you can check with the builder for a newer building or in the case of city buildings, those blueprints are generally filed with the municipal building department.

You may find this article on How to Find Blueprints of a Building helpful. Search for America's Building Records and go to Blog - How to Find Blueprints of a Building

Here are the takeaways from the article above:

  • Find the Contractor who built the property
  • The County Clerk may hold the key (or blueprint) - check with the city/municipality building department division
  • Locate the Original Owners of the Property
  • Consider An Architectural Expert
  • Check the National GIS for Building Plans

If you recently purchased the house, ask the previous owner. You can also try going to the city building department and seeing if they have any records; most of the time you may not be that lucky. The county assessor may have a little rendering of the elevation and floor plan.

Some other potential sources to consider:

  • the original builder and/or its descendents;
  • neighbors whose houses were built using the same floor plan;
  • engineers or construction companies who have worked on the house previously;
  • any bank or finance company who has (or has had) a mortgage or lien on the house;
  • the title company that holds (or has held) the title to the house

It's hard to estimate the likelihood that any of these sources would have blueprints on file; nonetheless, if you're grasping at straws, they're a few straws worth grasping at.
