Recently I did same type of evaluation myself as you are doing right now. I was trying to deside where to get cheap iPod and which one will I need. I didn't want to pay $200 for 8Gb nano, that's why I would recommend iPod nano 4GB. It is well-designed iPod, fully featured same as iPod classic, but much cheaper. I got myself armband and working out with it as well. It is very light to carry around and 4GB is good enough for music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, etc. If you load only fresh ones.
