How can you find out what type of RAM your system is using if you don't have a manual? |
[Edit] |
Answer
If you need to know this info to upgrade the RAM, the easiest way is to open up the ram panel (either under the keyboard, or on the bottom of the unit if it is a laptop) or (take off the left side of the case, and the memory will be 1-2 vertical 6in strips behind the CD Drives) and it will say PC66/PC100/PC133 SDRAM on a sticker (this is the speed of the RAM, which is what type you have). Or, hold F5 during start-up, and scroll over until you see the amount/speed under one of the categories (i.e: 64MB PC66, or 128MB PC100). If the unit is over 2-3 years old (which Im assuming since there is no manual) it will most likely one of the 3 PC speeds listed above. If it is newer, it will be DDR SDRAM (2100/2700 or higher speeds).
