There are several ways to brainwash others. The easiest involve children and by simply teaching them that its okay or the truth when it is not. For example molestation of the child. Religions would also fit into this category as they all cannot be right and even if one is the truth the rest would be brainwashing their children. So brainwashing can be accidental as well.
Other forms can involve abuse mental or physical until the person accepts the role that the brain-washer wishes them to be. For example a person who is being tortured can be trained to not only respond to another name but eventually ignore their real one as well. Even if they are released and go untreated they will continue to use the name the brain-washer gave them.
