This is the person who asked the question. They don't let you put more info, so here goes: I put in a CD last night, and it was working just fine. All of a sudden, when I got to the last track, my sound just stopped! I checked everything: I've done the "Start/Run/dxdiag/sound" testing, and when I pressed "Test DirectSound" I heard the noise! But every CD I put in now just won't work. My speakers are on, they're plugged in, and my computer says "No problems found." When I got on it today, it did start off with "Recently your computer was found with an unexpected error, and we would like to report this, and blah blah blah" and so on. I clicked "Send error report" and it didn't really do anything but send the report . . . any ideas? =D
