well if your talking about in real life then give that person as much covering fire as possible and try moving up with them by going to anything you can use as cover and move when they move.
P.S. I am not sure if you would do that or not but I sure would and remember you can live for nothing or die for something depending on if you do live through that or not but just remember what i said.
