Hey, ive seen a lot of black mold as i have to clean it from houses and at the company i work for we try and follow these 4 steps. Hope this can help!
- Step 1
looking for black mold. any place that is dark and has moisture is a growing environement for mold. Mold can be found inside cabinets, beneath drywall. crawl spaces, base boards water damaged areas. and most places with high humidity. any place that has had known water damage is a suspect for mold growth.
- Step 2
signs of mold. Mold needs moisture to grow, so check leaky pipes if you have leaky pipes you need to take care of it right away. If you have had previous flooding in your house that is a candidate for mold. flooding usually takes days if not weeks to dry out completely.
If you have a musty earthy type odor in your house that can be signs of mold. In some cases the smell can only be noticed with the AC on. If you get increased allergy and respiratory type systems. check leaky roofs or damp crawl spaces. discolored walls could be a sign of mold brownish yellowish blackish colors. Cracked or peeling paint can mean mold growth also.
- Step 3
Mold prevention.
1 Control humidity
2 prevent water leaks
3 have plenty of ventilation
4 make sure to remove dust
5 replace shower curtains if they have mold Growth
6 get a air purification system
7 change your ac filter often.
8 get a Air dehumidifier
- Step 4
Mold clean up. First you need to find the source of the water accumulation and make sure it is taken care of. Make sure to contain each area that's being cleaned. so mold spores do not become area born and affect other areas of the house. Each area should be cleaned separate. make sure to seal of the area you are cleaning. using plastic sheeting sealed with duck tape to contain a room. cover doorways vents and other open areas.
Turn of your HVAC system. maintain low dust levels. use a bleach and water solution to kill mold. other products that work really well is Tilex mold killer. you spray that on black mold and you don't even need to scrub the mold disappears on its own its very strong and potent. then rinse after your done. If the mold problem is severe you might want to call a professional to handle the clean up for safety reasons. make sure to wear protective clothing while cleaning mold. Make sure to wear a mask also. A N95 respirator is one of the best to wear Discard of all moldy items after finished

∙ 14y agoThe mold you are probably referring to is Stachybotrys chartarum, a mold commonly found outdoors but that also appears in damp homes. It requires constant moisture in order to grow. Health problems related to this mold have been documented for some time, but it is not certain if it the etiological agent of famous diseases (such as "leprosy" in The Bible). The mold creates a toxin which is detrimental to health.
