Best Answer

A bridge has three things to complete the foundation to keep it from collapsing. They are called spread footings, caissons and piles. It also has the deck itself.

All these components are also very carefully designed to withstand the various stresses that they will bear in service.

Bridges collapse because of the low level of structure and equipment.

ANSWER: Bridges collapse if the math was wrong, if the math was right it may have been built incorrectly and they collapse because the structure has been compromised. Some day Congress will pass an Constitutional Amendment declaring pi to be an even 3.0 to make it easier on public school teachers and civil servants. Then bridges will collapse all the time, except for the outlaw bridges built using the correct math.

Bridges do not float on the surface of water, they are anchored into the bedrock below the body of water. These bases are usually formed of insoluble, non-anaerobic substances that won't dissolve or rust. Some do, they are used by the military.

Well it depends on what type of bridge. Most bridges stay up with pillars, the reason they can hold up a bridge is because of the force between the bridge and the ground.
