CKC, Continental Kennel Club, registration papers are not recognized by any of the major dog breed registries. CKC will register a dog with unknown parentage, based on appearance alone, and therefor is not considered by many to be a legitimate registry.
According to what I have researched recently.....
1) Your puppy or dog needs to be at least a 3rd generation CKC pooch.
2) You send a copy of your CKC registration certification into AKC with a request to register, and pay the fee. Not sure what it is.
3) This also applies to the UKC; however, not to, I think it was API or APRI American Pet _____. You can register up to 10 dogs and your litter for free; however, it costs $79.00 for the new owner to register the puppies...... Hope this helps! Easiest way to get exact answer, go to the AKC website --Google American Kennel Club, it will come up, the web site is easy to manuever in and, if you have a 3rd generation pooch, I think you can even register it online now.
The AKC doesn't Recognize the Coton de Tulear. The CKC does and so does the FCI.
Most likely if you have Coton that is Registered with the AKC it is from a Puppy Mill and maybe a mix breed. I heard rumor that the USACTC (USA Coton de Tulear Club) will be the Parent club if the Cotons go AKC. I am for keeping the Coton de Tulear a Rare Breed and saying NO to the AKC and to Puppy Mills!
You didn't mention which CKC.
CKC.org is Canadian registration AKC forms required
ckcus.com is Contenental Kennel club Does not require AKC forms
Both registries have websites with full instructions on what you need.
You can dual register with both.
Keep in mind there are many registries and many of the smaller ones allow to you register with them if you have the proper AKC paperwork.

The dog has to be a purebred, from registered parents. When you purchase the dog you will be given papers to fill out and mail to the AKC to register your dog.
Unless you mean Canadian Kennel Club, you cannot register your rottweiler with AKC. The AKC only recognizes legitimate registries, and the Continental Kennel Club is not one
You have to have papers on the dog

None of the major registries, such as AKC or UKC will register a dog of unknown parentage. The CKC will register an apparently pure-bred dog with a letter from the vet stating is meets the breed standard. There are some who don't consider the CKC to be a legitimate registry, since they do allow unknown dogs to be registered. The main point of registration is to document the parentage of a dog. A dog with unknown parentage is not, by definition, registrable.

Canadian Kennel Club registered dogs are eligible to compete in American Kennel Club events under their own CKC number. If you are living in the US, it is best to obtain an AKC registration number in addition to the CKC number for the dog. Contact the AKC Special Registry Services. You would need a clear copy of the CKC registration & a copy of the certified pedigree, two 3x5 color photos of the dog (front and side, standing), an AKC application completed in ink, the application fee and proof of tattoo or microchip.
