To get rid of mustard algae in a Chlorine pool, shock is not the only componet to eliminate it. A copper-based algaecide must be used. To get rid of mustard algae in a Baquacil pool, the best route to go would be Flocculant and then chemically cleaning the filter where it traps itself.

If you use a copper algaecide, be sure to use a chellating agent like Natural Chemistry's MetalFree afterwards. Another alternative is to use Yellow Out, which works with chlorine shock to kill mustard algae without scrubbing.

If you are not getting rid of it you are Probably leaving too many live traces of it in the pool after having cleaned it. This is a drastic method that worked like a beauty for me when I had a similar problem years ago. (1) throw in double the recommended copper based algaecide, (2) over dose it with chlorine, (3) scrub the walls and floor again thoroughly. (4) turn of the filtration equipment. (5) cast a strong clarifier over the surface of the pool, (6) let it settle for 2 or 3 days. If every thing goes according to plan You will end up with beautifully clear water on top of a cloudy layer of water with algae dead and alive at the bottom of the pool. the top of the sludge layer is clearly delineated. (7) gently hand vacuum all of the cloudy sludgy looking water from the bottom of the pool directly to waste. Do not put it through the filter. (8) Backwash, Rinse, Set to filter(9) top up the pool. You should by now have gotten rid of most of the algae and have regained control of it.

Algea blooms double in size every 8 hours, so it is importatnt to keep a properly balanced pool. pH should be in the 7.2-7.4 range, and super chlorinate the pool atleast an hour before adding your copper based algecide. Remember, the algeacide is only inhibiting algae growth while the chlorine kills it, so you need to keep your chlorine level at 3-5 ppm until all of the algae is dead and removed from the pool. Brush the pool completely and then wait. The next day you should beable to vacuum out most if not all of the dead algae on the bottom, and there should be little to no new growth. Any areas that still have algae should be brushed off, and the chlorine will sanitize and oxidize them.

Don't let it go a few days!!!! as I said...algae blooms double in size every 8 hours of sunlight, so it only takes a day or two for that little spot under the waterfall to cover the entire pool again.

What is a sand-like residue on the bottom of your above ground pool and how can you get rid of it?

Sounds like you have water mold. We had the same problem. We use baquacil chemicals instead of chlorine. Baquacil ultra is made to get rid of the mold. It worked for us. If you are using chlorine, you may need to see if there is a chemical to use for it.

Does chlorine remove the odour of water?

If you mean the odor of mold or mildew caused from water leaks, yes, diluted chlorine in fresh water will help. However, chlorine--bleach--does NOT kill mold spores. You can put the dilution in a spray bottle CLEARLY MARKED with what's in the bottle. Or, use a broom wet with the dilution across concrete basement floors. Make sure it dries so you don't add more mildew and mold.Though it does not kill mold or mildew, either, spraying Febreeze (TM) high into the air and toward basement walls helps to decrease the mold-mildew odor.
