Mix one teaspoon of a neutral detergent (a mild detergent containing no alkalies or bleaches) with a cup of luke-warm water. Blot.
Mix one-third cup of white household vinegar with two-thirds cup of water. Blot.
Repeat step one.
Sponge with clean water. Blot.

To remove red wine from a carpet,just pour table salt all over the stain, don't be afraid to use alot. I've done this when I've spilled the wine, I don't know how well it would work if it's been sitting awhile.
