To remove red wine from a carpet, just pour table salt all over the stain, don't be afraid to use alot. I've done this when I've spilled the wine, I don't know how well it would work if it's been sitting awhile
ANSWER
Equal parts Dawn dish soap and Hydrogen Peroxide with lots of water and blotting, water and scrubbing, water and the mixture above will do a very good job. I have taken out red wine spills from a glass tipped over all over a light colored couch and carpet - horrific, in a rented vacation house - using this mixture and a method of take time and elbow grease, apply, water, blot or suction up (use a shop vac if you have access to one) - repeat.
Spilled onto a white table cloth, I have removed red wine by applying liquid TIDE and/or WINE AWAY spray (but this at a hardware store) and wash in the machine with hot wash/cold rinse. Worked like a charm.
