Tell on them, or get help. Fighting back is a surefire way to get beaten up by them. Telling on them will definitely get authoritative adults involved and tell them to quit it.
There are at least three answers to this. You can join them; beat them up; form a herd.
Note how bullies tend to travel in pods, three or more together. Well, what keeps you from doing that? Surely you have enough friends who travel the way you do. And choose your allies well. Diversity and honesty are better than fascist homogenization any day. They ought to tell you that you are slaking, and you ought to want them to. While you are at it, wrestle. Wrestle often. This is the foundation of, and the oldest martial art on earth. It will build physical, mental, and emotional strength, endurance, and skill. And then you can wrestle the bully. This might make him your ally, or might just scare him off. Stick with your herd in case he tries to escalate the situation.
When it comes to authorities, that could be a mixed bag. Sometimes, the legal or political authorities won't be much help to you. Either they won't want to be bothered, or might turn on you for being a sissy. Bullies can serve a function in society, keeping the rest of us on our toes and keeping us from settling for less than we are. If it comes to a fight, take inventory. Can you win? Would you want what you would win? Societies want a member who can fend for themselves in a fight. And mind you, bullies rarely fight fair.
Whatever you choose to do, remember, the bullies get that way because they were bullied, maybe at home. And, it is not a good idea to 'Punish evil with evil' as the I Ching says. Cultivate your standards, let your herd help you get them reasonable and solid, and don't let the bully try to lower you. You are responsible solely for your choices and actions, and none other.
Hope that helps.
