Before/during Sex

The safest way is a condom. It prevents both the pregnancy and STDs. Birth control pills are a good option when you know and trust your partner(s). You need to have been taking birth control for roughly a month in advance for it to work. There are also more permanent solutions such as sterilization. Sterilization stops pregnancies, but not STDs.

After Sex

Immediately After

Within 5 days after sex, you can prevent pregnancy by taking emergency contraception such as Plan B, aka the "morning after pill". Plan B is over the counter (non-prscription) for anyone (man/woman) 18 and over. Although 5 days is the limit, taking it within hours of sex provides the closest to guaranteed results.

Later

If you are already pregnant, then abortion is the answer. Prior to 8 weeks, this can be done with pills available from abortion clinics or your own doctor. After 8, the abortion will be induced by a doctor.

• I suggest everyone who is sexually active (hetersexual) and wants to prevent pregnancy to always have Plan B by their bedside. Because you never know when a condom will break. or god forbid a friend of yours gets raped. you want to take the medicine ASAP because it will will more likely work if you take it ASAP. If you wait, it may be too late. Once the egg/sperm hook up, Plan B doesn't work. and then your only option is to deal with pregnancy.
• My boyfriend and I have just engaged in sexual intercourse yesterday, unfortunately for us, the condom broke. Though most women would most likely get mad at their partner, for having no responsibility and continuing, I did not get mad at him, after all, it was OUR mistake. It wasn't our intention for this to happen. As for the dumb person who says that people can get pregnant by just fingering themselves, that is the stupidest thing that I have ever heard because you can only get pregnant if/or the sperm fertilizes the egg, and men do not have sperm ejaculating from their fingers. My friends and boyfriend had told me about getting the Morning-after pill also known as "Plan B." From what I have heard, and researched it is very successful, however, there is a slight chance that it will not prevent it, however, you should always think about the positive stuff, rather than complain about what could happen if you are pregnant.
• I advise you, to whoever wants to try this contraceptive to get it right after you have just ingaged in sexual intercourse so that, it will be able to work more successfully if you take it ASAP. It's pricey, but consider the following: Money, or future parent? It's your decision. Although a lot of females would never think of abortion as an option, taking the morning-after pill is not a form of abortion, after all, it is still an egg travelling to the fallopian tube. There is nothing wrong with preventing something that has not yet been formed or has gone through physical changes, because it is, right now, only but a cell travelling to the fallopian tube. And to all those people, who think that abortion is really bad, you have to consider the fact that you eat egg. Not the human egg, obviously, but the chicken egg. The egg that you eat almost every day for breakfast. That is the same thing. You killed an egg, even though it wasn't formed. So tell me, is eating a chicken egg as bad as killing a human egg? The answer is no. There is nothing wrong with killing something that has not yet been formed. And to those who think that humans and animals are totally different things, it's the same thing, practically. You're killing something that has not yet been formed. So, I tell you, to choose abortion, abstinence, or morning-after pills. You should really talk to your boyfriend/intimate partner about it too, because if he does not care about fathering his future child, then he doesn't really care about you. Remember, media is changing the affect of teenage women these days. It's up to you and your partner. Remember, abstinence is the key, but it is obviously a little too late to say that right now. Back then, we thought that it would be great to lose our virginity, but now, we wished that we have never had done it. However for me, I do not regret any thing. And today is good friday, all the stores are closed in my neighbour hood, so i'd have to wait until tomorrow to get my morning-after pills.
