"Whichever caliper is frozen, I take it you mean seized, then the steering will pull in the opposite direction, so if the drivers side front caliper is seized, the steering will pull to the left, that is the passenger side front."
The answer above is not necessarelly true. I've seen many seized calipers which don't pull the car to one side or the other. The EASIEST WAY to tell if your caliper is seized is by jacking up the car , put it in neutral andwhen the wheel is on the air and start turning it by hand. If the wheel turns easily then the caliper is probabbly not seized, if it's hard tu turn then the calipers are most likely seized.
I suppose then to prove the case above using as simple a method as possible is to select a road without traffic flow, then using a brake hose clamp, clamp off one of the front hoses to prevent hydraulic pressure reaching the caliper, by this method one will know the brake cannot work, then drive the car at a reaonable speed in a straight line, holding the steering wheel with both hands and then firmly apply the brake pedal.
The steering wheel will turn on the opposite direction, try it and then we can conclude the issue.
my 1993 Chevy p/u 4.3engine driver side caliper is seized i removed the tire and found that the brake pads were worn down to almost the riviets. Need to know how toremove and repair calpier?
Front caliper bolts 25 ft/lb Mounting bracket bolts 80ft/lb
It really depends on the year and model as the braking systems are different on different models, and sometimes change over the course of the model. However, since Saabs are Front Wheel Drive, a rear caliper is easier to replace than the fronts. Remove the brake line and parking brake cable (if there is one). Remove the old caliper and install the new one. Re-install the brake line and parking brake pieces. Bleed the brakes.
Changing seals on a brake caliper is relatively easy. It's the disassembly and reassembly that is the hard part when putting the piston back in.First of all,the type of caliper is important. Can you tell me what type it is? And is it front or rear? Rear wheel calipers can be especially hard depending on the vehicle. The use of pneumatic tools is needed for this type of repair and a cylinder hone to clean the bore of the caliper also.If you want more details,I'll watch this question.Good luck!
can you tell me if rear caliper piston screws in
First remove tire to access brake caliper once this is done then look for the 2 bolts holding caliper to housing loose and get bolts to recess into caliper assembly .Once the bolts are recessed enough use a pry tool to remove caliper from housing and disc assembly. using a 4" or greater "C" clamp recess the caliper pistons (using the old inside brake pad). Slooowly push piston into caliper housing remove old pads install new pads. making sure not to twist brake hoses. Also at this time you may want to remove caliper cage assembly to remove front disc to be resurfaced (it may need to be replaced thedisc that is once this determination is made reassemble in reverse order. Oh,my bad I forgot to tell you to remove master cylinder cap to allow fluid to return to cylinder some time prior to removing caliper.
In most cases you remove the two bolts holding caliper to knuckle . -However, you did NOT tell us the make and model of vehicle, so this may not always be the correct way. When asking questions about any vehicle or appliance, make, model and year are essential information.
If you can see the brake caliper and rotor, then it has disc brakes. If all you see is a large drum then it has shoes. If you can see the front brakes thru the wheels, you can identify disc brakes. If the rear look like the front, then they are also disc brakes. However if the rear look much different, then chances are they are drum.
The special tool to push the piston into the brake caliper. A C-CLAMP. FIND OUT WHAT SIZE YOU NEED. FROM VIN NUMBER IN YOUR LEFT SIDE OF YOUR FRONT WINDSHIELD,THEN TAKE NUMBER TO AUTO STORE.SO THEY CAN GET YOURSELF A REPAIR MANUAL FOR YOUR CAR.IN MANUAL THEY WILL TELL YOU THE SIZE OF CALIPER,BY DIAMETER THEN YOU CAN BUY THE CORRECT C-CLAMP. AT HOME DEPOT, FOR A FEW BUCKS INSTEAD OF MAJOR BUCKS,FOR SPECIAL TOOL. S O N N Y
You have a brake line to the calipers that is collapsing. A mechanic will tell you which side it is by the direction it is pulling to. Caliper Piston binding on that side
loosen the lug nuts Jack up one side of the car, "e brake should not be on" remove tire. On the back of the caliper "caliper is what hugs the rotor" there should be 2 bolts loosen those two bolts and pop out the old pads, replace them with new ones. Make sure that the pad with the black clip is on the inside .. "back of the caliper". tighten the caliper bolts... CRITICAL STEP YOU MUST BLEED THE BRAKES!!!! There is a small bolt on the b ack of the caliper, looke like a little nipple "usually a size 8mm or 10 mm" loosen the bolt, have some one pump the brake, They should pump the break until you have a long steady spray. when you have the long steady spray tell them to hold down the brake. tighten the bolt

A 'caliper' is the main body of the brake unit. ( it is NOT "on the tire") It carries the brake piston and mounts for the two disc pads. You may need new pads if they are worn , but unless your vehicle is quite old it's unlikely you need a new caliper. Get someone who knows about brakes to tell you.
