How can you use a laptop as a monitor for a Windows 2003 server?

One solution would be to install VNC on the Server and Workstation, connect laptop to the same network as the server and use VNC viewer to access the Server.

This would only work if the Server actually boots, and would not allow you to see the bootup sequence.
