Where do you wear a scarf?

Scarves are made for different purposes, such as a head covering or a neck covering.

A square scarf on the head can be:

1. folded in a triangle with both points pulled to and tied in the back, at the bottom of the head
2. folded in a triangle with both points pulled and tied under the chin
3. folded in a triangle with the points pulled toward the top of the head and tied there

A long neck scarf can be placed around the neck and:

1. left undone, with an even amount hanging on right and left
2. left undone, with an unequal amount hanging on one side
3. hung around the back of the neck by having both sides even and loosely throwing one end over the opposite shoulder
4. hung around the back of the neck by having both sides uneven and loosely throwing the longer end over the opposite shoulder
5. hung around the back of the neck , then loosely "tied" in a single loop at the neck (high)
6. hung around the back of the neck , then loosely "tied" in a single loop at the neck (lower, just below the shoulder height)
7. hung around the back of the neck , then loosely "tied" lower still (mid-chest)
8. hung around the back of the neck , and double but loosely "tied" (at any level)
9. hung around the back of the neck but with both ends pulled toward one shoulder and fashioned into a large bow (best with thinner scarves)
10. doubled with a second contrasting scarf and used in any of the ways listed above
11. hung around the back of the neck with both ends pulled to one shoulder and secured with a large broach (decorative jewelry)

Some scarves are skinny enough or decorative enough to be used as a sash or belt.
