It is good to sweat when you are sick because it allows for some of the "bugs" to exit your body via sweat. This does not mean going to the gym and trying to work up a big sweat! Your body does need to rest. When you have a chest cold sweating in say a sauna or a steam room tend to be very benificial as it allows the congestion in your chest (mucus) to loosen up and exit your body when you cough. The coughing is your bodys way of getting rid of what should not be in your lungs. Mucus actually a mode of transportation out of the body for the infection. Who knew mucus was so interesting!
The human body is amazing. When you're sick, there are germs or "bugs" inside you making you cough or throw up or whatever. Your body heats up naturally so the bugs die in a hostile environment. They can't survive in such a hot place. Your body is getting a fever, and though it makes you hot and uncomfortable, so you can get better. That's why we use a thermometer to measure how sick you are. The higher the fever, the more germs inside you. Hope this helped!
When we are ill our body fights against the infection with the help of antibodies. In the process of producing more antibodies our body heats up. More temperature more is the production of antibodies. Substances like pyrogens causes fever. They move through bloodstream send message to hypothalamus in brain which controls body temperature.
When your body temperature rises because of an infection, it's called a fever. Fevers are caused by chemicals called pyrogens flowing in the bloodstream. Pyrogens make their way to thehypothalamus in the brain, which is in charge of regulating body temperature. When pyrogens bind to certain receptors in the hypothalamus, body temperature rises.
One common pyrogen is calledInterleukin-1 (IL-1). IL-1 is produced by white blood cells called macrophages when they come into contact with certainbacteria and viruses. IL-1 has multiple purposes, one of which is to signal other white blood cells, called helper T cells, into action.
One purpose of a fever is thought to be to raise the body's temperature enough to kill off certain bacteria and viruses sensitive to temperature changes. One interesting debate right now, therefore, is, "Should you lower a fever?" Aspirin, for example, will reduce fever; but if the fever is actually helping rid the body of infection, then lowering it might not be a good idea. On the other hand, people sometimes die from fever. Right now the general medical consensus falls on the "reduce the fever" side of the fence.
Because you might have a fever and your skin is hot. so that is why you sweat.
