Your EVO sensor probably went out. It basically tells the pump how hard to work, (high speed vs. Low speed) it's the same on tahoes, yukons, etc... look that up, and you can actually just leave it disconnected if you dont want to pay for the new sensor.
Turn the wheel ALL the way to the right and then ALL the way to the left a few times. This will force air out of the lines. Top off the power steering reservoir when you are done.
Replace the power steering pump.
Most times you simply replace the power steering pump. Good Luck
Just turn the wheels all the way to the left and right several times and the air will work itself out. No big deal.
The Suburban Times was created in 2005.
turn steering wheel lock to lock several times.
Take the drive belt loose from the pump. Loosen the lowest power steering pump hose and let the fluid drain into a bucket. Remove the lines from the pump. Unbolt the pump and mount the new one. Connect the lines up and put the belt back on. Fill the system with fresh fluid. With the engine running, turn the steering wheel fully from side to side several times to burp air from the system.
Power steering fluid, because of the friction, requires cooling. Sometimes this is done by putting cooling fins on part of the pipe that the fluid runs thru. Other times there is a small loop with cooling fins like a mini radiator next to the power steering pump. And finally the design may actually bring the power steering fluid through a loop that is actually inside the radiator to allow the coolant to cool it. The coolant and power steering fluid never mix, just exchange heat. More typically, it is actually the automatic transmission fluid lines that run to the radiator for cooling.
Power steering fluid? loosen fill cap turn wheels lock-to-lock 6-10 times check fluid level secure cap
Fill power steering resevoir Leave cap loose Turn wheel "lock to lock" 5-6 times
Try draining the old power steering fluid using a small suction device and refill it with fresh fluid. Then bleed the air out by turning the wheel back and forth several times with the car off. If that does not fix it, a new power steering pump is probably needed.
turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times it bleeds itself when it is running
