How did Harry get his part in Harry Potter?

Daniel Radcliffe got his part in the Harry Potter movies, when the producers were sat in front of him and his parents when they went to see an Opera, and when the opera ended, the producers asked Daniel if he would like to audition for the role. :)

The spin-off series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will have three movies. The first of which is already in production. The main roles have been cast and there was one open audition, held in London in 2015, for a young girl.

The majority of roles in the Harry Potter movies were not cast through open auditions, especially the adult cast. Ron, Hermione, Luna and Lavender were some of the characters to be cast through open auditions.

If you had an agent and fit the description, then you could be put forward and audition for the role. If not, the only way was to either know somebody involved with the production or to attend an open audition.

In order to get a role in a movie, you MUST be prepared. Whether it be a monologue, song, or a provided text the directors give you, be prepared for the worst. Producer David Heyman saw Daniel Radcliffe in the theatre. Heyman, desperate along with the other film-makers to find a 'Harry Potter' cast-member saw this very 'curious' child in the theatre and immediately set about to persuade this boy's parents to play the part or at least audition. Daniel Radcliffe's parents were originally not of the opinion that Daniel should act, but eventually were persuaded. J.K. Rowling saw the audition of Daniel Radcliffe and from that day Daniel became, via Rowling, the Chosen One to play Harry Potter.
