No. The only way you could ruin i muscle is by injuring it by hiting it. It could be just sore.
If it is in the back of neck, go to a chiropractor. More than likely its a sore muscle.

When the body produces lactic acid because it doesn't have enough oxygen this makes a muscle sore.

If you not sore after a workout, your not going to gain muscle. When you lift, what you are doing is making tiny rips in your muscle, your body recovers by building new muscle to avoid it again. So if your muscles arent sore, your not going to gain any muscle.

It doesn't hurt much at the time but it can leave the muscle very sore for a few days after, so it is better to take it in the buttock because it is easier to cope with a sore bottom than a sore arm.
