∙ 14y agoAlexander did not kill the occupants of the city's he took over. Unless they fought back, in which case, he slaughtered every last one of them. I don't think he is known for being "compassionate". He is known for being the most successful warrior in history.

∙ 6y agoAlexander was a military genius, possibly the greatest warrior of all time. His troops were better trained and organized than the Persian army. His soldiers also admired Alexander because of his personal courage. Alexander led his soldiers in battle instead of remaining behind the lines. The troops saw that Alexander was sharing their danger, and was not asking them to take any risks he would not take himself.
He was always at the forefront of the battles he fought, leading the most dangerous phases.
