Best Answer

Brean Down is the most westerly part of the Mendip Hills. It is composed of carboniferous limestone, laid down some 325 million years ago. It is comprised mainly of shells and the hard parts of sea creatures, and so is sedimentary. With the movement of the tectonic plates, the sea bed was forced upwards, making mountain ranges, which in turn have been weathered and eroded leaving what we have today.
