He recorded a song for his mamma's birhtday at Sun Studio, which is located in Memphis, Tenessee. After he recorded the song, Sam, the owner, called Elvis in to record a song. The song was not right for him. After a few weeks, he got called back in to work with Bill Black and Scotty Moore, a guitarist and a bass player. They did a few takes but nothing worked. Elvis fiddle around with a blues song called That's All Right Mamma. That was his first biggest hit song ever. That's how it all began in 1954. After that, he was a big sucess.
Following his dreams.
Having faith in God.
Using the talents he was given and then refined.
Surrounding himself with others who believed in him and, individually and collectively, were trend setters themselves.
Wanting to provide a permanent home for his beloved mother Gladys.
Not letting fear keep him from trying.
All of these factors contributed to Elvis going into Sun Records, after his high school graduation from Humes High School, in the mid 1950s to cut a record for his mother. Elvis kept going into Sun Records, using various excuses to be there, for about a year after cutting his first record.
When Elvis recorded "That's all right (little) mamma", at Sun Records, it was a local hit and with more airplay Elvis gained popularity throughout the South and even Billboard (the magazine) wrote several complimentary articles about Elvis thus presenting him to new audiences throughout the United States.
It didn't hurt that he gained confidence, in himself and in his interaction with the audience, with each performance and that his physical and facial conditions were such that even the sight of Elvis made teenage girls scream or faint.
Lastly, Elvis asked himself (and shared with others throughout his life) "why did God choose me (to become a star, celebrity, singer, performer,?".
By his unique singing, performing, hair, and clothing style(s).
Also, his first recording with Sun Records entitled "That's All Right (little) Mama" was a hit record and he followed this success by touring, performing on the Louisiana Hayride (live concert venue) and then his national TV appearances (i.e. Dorsey Brothers Show, Milton Berle Show, Steve Allen Show, and the Ed Sullivan Show) beginning in the mid 1950's.
