The evening before All Saints' Day. The evening before this religious holiday became became known as "All Hallow Evening", became shortened to All Hallow Eve then to Hallowe'en and further corrupted to Halloween. It no longer holds its religious meanings of Saints and rememberance for those long dead and gone. It has become a secular event to be enjoyed by the children of the western world.
