Hitler controlled Germany in many ways after he became chancellor in 1934. He used Propaganda effectively, used his SS and Gestapo (secret police) and the Enabling Act.

The SS and Gestapo put fear into Germany, by performing killings. They were trained to shoot people without giving any second thoughts. He used the Gestapo to interrogate the German people, and they sent many of Hitler's enemies to concentration camps where they were put in the mercy of the brutal SS.

Hitler got the Enabling Act after the Reichstag fire. This allowed him to pass on any new laws when he wanted to.He used it to get rid of his political opponents by making Germany a one-party-state. He got rid of Communists, Trade Unions and Social Democrats.

To control the minds of the young of Germany, Hitler made the "Hitler Youth". This was like boy scouts. Boys there were taught under the Nazi Racial Ideolegy, and learned about Nazi history.

Going back to Htler's use of propaganda, Josef Goebbels organised "Hitler over Germany". This gained him more supporters as people saw nothing and heard nothing, apart from Hitler.

Hitler also got rid of all priests in churches, as he thought that they were spreading anti- Nazi beliefs. He got rid of them and put his own men in charge of them instead.

This is how i think Hitler controlled Germany. I hope you learned smomething about Hitler's control of Germany during his reign from this short essay.

He had at his disposal, the SA who were now the police, the steel helmets group were merged with them. He had the power to make laws and implement them the same day. Without going through Parliament in the very early stages of his opointment of chancellor. one such law was ' protection of the Reich' which allowed oppostion to be shot or beaten without fear of punishment.

Alot of academics, writers, poets, painters, musicians and pollitical figures along with 'normal people' left the country for America, 3000 emigrated to England and later moved to America. Most people that stayed were either sympathizers of the Reich or just plain scared.

Book burning took place where all books that were deemed un-German ie, marxist, Jewish or Jewish origin, beliefs etc Book burning took place at night as a symbol. librarians, teachers were asked to make lists of books, text books etc which were un-German- also they were encouraged to resign if they did not agree with the Reich.

Also Jewish shops and business' were boycotted as instructed by the party leadership. Some people ignored this and went anyway and ran the gauntlet even though SA were standing gard outside. They had posters put up in Jewish shops warning people to avoid Jews if they wanted to be considered good Germans.

On April 25th a law was passed to limit the amount of German Jews in high schools and universities to just 1.5%.

All of this plus alot more was how German society was controlled, but the main reason was, most people agreed with Hitler- Infact alot of people in England also agreed. England had its own Nazi party. but never got into power. The king (edward) advocated the throne- he to was a Hitler sympathizer, and met frequently with the man. England almost became Hitlers ally.

As far as i can tell:

Through terror ( the S.S. - his private army - and concentration camps etc.), propaganda (posters and publicity), Hitler youth (training kids how great Nazis are), and economic success (wealth and industry).
