Firstly, through Propaganda, he created a social distance between the Jewish community and the rest of the German population. After passing the Nuremberg laws, the Jews were placed into ghettos, completely sealed off from the rest of the Germans. Along with the gold star of David sewn to all of their clothing to be visible in public, it became unlawful to hold an establishment as a Jewish person. Then, the construction of work and death camps to which the Jewish people of Germany and neighboring countries were sent to was the final piece that took away any freedom the Jews once held.

Absolutely. It was very important to the Nazis to control the information the people got. The Nazis were the first to have a high-level government official serving as Minister of Propaganda. The Nazis wanted to control what the people thought, all to make them support what the Nazis wanted to do. The Minister of Propaganda, Josef Goebbels, also controlled the Motion Picture Industry and Radio broadcasting. Television was still experimental and no one had TVs in their home. It was a crime to listen to news from foreign broadcasts, such as the BBC, from England. People carefully locked their doors and turned the radio very low to listen to news sources from outside, to learn what was really happening in the war.

How was Hitler insane?

It is probably meaningless to try to quantify or compare degrees of insanity. Every case is different. That being said, it is possible that Hitler did not have any specific mental pathology. He held a number of delusional beliefs, and he was certainly hateful, malicious, vindictive, paranoid and enormously conceited, but many modern psychologists and biographers do not believe that he was mentally ill. He did exhibit symptoms of Parkinsons Disease near the end of his life, but that is clearly not relevant. In fact, many people would argue that one of the things that makes Hitler and people like him so dangerous is that they are not insane. The German people elected him because he made sense at the time. A leader like Hitler can arise any time that people are willing to vote for politicians who would take away personal freedoms "for the good of society".
