How did Medieval Theatre Start?

Answer:
The first plays were put on by the Church to teach the bible stories. People couldn't read or write so to teach the bible the Catholic church turned to plays, stain glass windows, and other means to teach the bible. Through out the middle ages all the plays were religious and the fist players were the monks. Later, guilds sponsored passion plays and some of its members played the parts.
