How did Moshe Dayan lose his eye?

Answer:
While fighting in Lebanon in 1941, his binoculars were struck by a French bullet, sending glass fragments into his left eye. It took six hours before he could be evacuated for treatment. Extensive damage to his eye and extraocular muscles was such that he could not be refitted with a glass eye, and was forced to instead wear his iconic eyepatch.
