For roughly a year during 1793 and 1794, the Comittee of Public Safety was control of the government. It acted to defend France from external and domestic treats. To meet these threats, it adopted policies that created what came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

To defend the Revolution, they charged them with treason and sent them to the guillotine.
