the Romans were very smart and found a way to make a wind mill sort of thing to clean the water that was in the baths so it got filtered then was sent out again then came in again the water was normally reasonably clean but none work today

∙ 13y agoFirst and foremost they got clean. However the baths were more than a bunch of tubs, they were social and recreational centers. They had exercise facilities, Swimming Pools, libraries, game rooms, hairdressers, barbers, food vendors, massage parlors and some had shops along the outside.

∙ 13y agoThe cold or cool room had water directly from the aqueducts, the warm or hot rooms had their water heated by the hypocaust system. That's the basics. Other amenities included, massage rooms, hairdressers, libraries, exercise areas, snack shops and social centers for Board Games and gossip.
