Charles A. May who was a career soldier and retired after 25 years as a Brevet Colonel in the US Army. His charge silenced the Mexican artillery. Of the eighty men in his squadron he lost one Lieutenat, seven privates and 28 horses with an additional 10 privates wounded in action.
