How did algebra spread to Europe?

[Edit]

Thank the Arabs for Algebra

If memory serves, algebra came to Europe via the Moorish invasion of Spain. Islam at the time represented the flower of civilization while northern Europe was still in the Dark Ages (called "Dark" because so little written history has survived the era) The word "algebra" is Arabic in origin.
