The ancient Greeks worshiped each god in separate ways but basically, each god or goddess has a major temple and holiday, and in that temple, the Greeks would pray to that certain god or goddess, asking for favors in what they rule and control. During holidays, the god or goddess was worshiped with dances, feasts, prayers and sacrifices, each sacrifice varying from god to god. For example, a famous temple is the Parthenon, worshiping Athena (or Minerva in roman mythology). A famous holiday was the Olympics, honoring Zeus. A famous sacrifice was a white bull to Poseidon.
Different cultures honored their gods in different ways. The Greeks, for example, offered sacrifices of animals and libations of strong wine, along with gold and other such things.
In ancient times it was a place of worship and a meeting hall as were all temples. In present times it is a major tourist attraction.
