The Baha'i Faith began when a member of the Persian nobility announced to a small group of followers that He was the Manifestation of God for this age. This was in Baghdad in April 1963. He is known as Baha'u'llah, the Glory of God.

He had been exiled from Persia and was to be exiled to Ederne, further into the interior of the Ottoman Empire. He had been exiled the first time after having been found innocent of a plot to kill the Shah of Persia. He would be further exile, eventually to the prison colony of Akka which is now in the state of Israel.

Baha'is date the beginning of their religion from 1844 when a Persian merchant announced He was a Manifestation of God to prepare humanity for another Manifestation of God. He is known as the Bab, the Gate to God.

Baha'is consider them to be twin Manifestations of God for this age.

The Baha'i Faith began in Persia, now known as Iran. The founder, Baha'u'llah, was a Persian nobleman who was imprisoned and exiled because of his teachings - first to Baghdad, then to Istanbul, then to Edirne (western border of Turkey), and then to Akka in the Ottoman territory of Palestine (now northern Israel). Because Baha'u'llah spent the last years of his life there, and his son Abdu'l-Baha was raised in the prison city of Akka, they are both buried in Israel (Baha'u'llah near Akka; Abdu'l-Baha upon Mt Carmel in the neighbouring city of Haifa) and the Baha'i World Centre is located there.

Either 1863 or 1844, depending on whether you count the Babí Faith as a separate religion, or a precursor of the Bahá'í Faith.

Where did bahai com from?

The Baha'i Faith originated in 19th Century Persia, present day Iran. The prophet, Baha'u'llah (ie., "Glory of God"), was born in Tehran. He was exiled first to Baghdad, later to Turkey, and finally imprisoned in Akka, in the Ottoman province of Palestine. So the world centre of the Bahai Faith is in what is now Israel. There are shrines and gardens there, and the Bahai international administrative institutions.
