Blitzlreig or lightning war was the way that the Germans took over Norway and France so effectively.
Basically they sent a load of troops and tanks in first causing a distraction.
Then paratroopers were sent over the back to lay on wait.
As soon as the main force had succeeded in pushing the defenders back then the paratroopers were waiting.
Ultimately, there are more similarities than differences. People still die. Countries still fall apart, and spend a phenomenal amount of money in the process. Objectives change, equipment and tactics change, but war is still war. And most of the victims weren't even fighting it.
