Stalin's death in 1953 was the reason the war ended in 1953. Stalin started the war (without his support...weapons, equipment, training, etc.) North Korea would not have, nor could have invaded South Korea. When he died, the war had to end.

Yes. I believe he did. He ended it in 1953, then the Cold War began Eisenhower signed the Korean Armistice. The Korean War never actually ended--it's just on hold for now. It's been just on hold for now since 1953...although every once in a while things get hairy. The most famous example was in the late 1970s; the US Army sent some soldiers to trim a tree that was blocking their view of a North Korean guard post along the Demilitarized Zone. The North Koreans killed the Americans, which raised tensions to a very high level. Here's one that sounds a bit silly, but at the time they ALMOST restarted hostilities over it. At the west end of the Demilitarized Zone is a town called Panmunjom. It's right on the border. There's a huge conference room in it at which the North and the South sit down to argue. There are also two flagpoles up there--one on the North side of the Military Demarcation Line (the actual border), the other on the South side. If you go up to Panmunjom, you'll notice the two flagpoles. One is in Freedom Village, the only town in South Korea that lies within the DMZ (which is 2km wide). The other is in what we call Propaganda Village, which is the same thing on the north side of the border. (It's called Propaganda Village because the North Korean government built it to show the people living in Freedom Village how wonderful life in North Korea was...and everyone in Freedom Village knows that the population of Propaganda Village is zero. Yup, no one lives there, at all. But the NK government spent trillions of won putting it up. Makes ya wonder sometimes.) Anyway, the North Korean flagpole is unbelievably high--many hundreds of meters tall. And the South Korean flagpole has the biggest flag it's possible to make on it--IIRC it covers over an acre. They almost went to war over this too--both sides put up a flagpole. Then one side put up a bigger pole, and the other side would retaliate by putting up an even larger one...to which the first side would answer with an even larger flag. The US and East German forces actually had to step in to stop this. Final disposition: the North can have a taller flagpole, but the South can put a bigger flag on it.

What countries fought during the Korean War?

Korean war was a war within Korea. The war broke out in 25th of June 1950, and it started because North Korea crossed the border between North and South Korea. I'm a south Korean, and my grandma was a girl then and when I ask her to tell me about it she tells me some stories, and I can see that it was devastating.. They had to move around hiding and many people died from starvation and from the warfront. She lost her brother in the war actually.. But she was one of the lucky ones, cus her family was rich so they didn't starve. And my grandad fought in the war and a bomb landed next to him or something so he almost lost his leg. Fortunately he didn't but he limps now. Korean war is really one of the tragic times of Korean history. Well, hope this helped... :) When the U.N came and pushed North Korea towards China's border China entered the war

Can anyone tell me anything about a dagger tattoo on the left forearm of Korean War veterans?

I'm not certain, so many of my contacts who served in the Korean War have regrouped beyond, but I believe it has something to do with those who served and fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir (or just Chosin) where US, UK, and mixed UN forces were hideously outnumbered by the Chinese and North Korean armies. Much of the fighting was in close quarters or hand-to-hand, which would be the significance of the dagger.

How do you know the difference between a Chinese Japanese and Korean?

It's difficult for people of Western origin to see the difference, but many Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans can tell the difference right away. Physically, the eyelids are different. Culturally, the way they dress, act, and present themselves is also an indicator.

How can you tell the difference between a Chinese Korean and a Japanese dragon?

Chinese Dragons have 4 toes, and 5 for the highest Dragon which in almost all cases represents the Emperor, and they are often represented with their life force (the dragon ball) in one of its claws. The Korean dragon is more water based and also has Four toes but that's as high as it goes and I have yet to see them holding the dragon ball, except in its mouth...which contrasts with the Chinese etymology. Lastly, the Japanese dragon only has 3 toes.

Dwight Eisenhower republican or democrat?

Eisenhower switched to the Republican party, so he would have a chance of being elected in 1952. I think he was an independent before that but unfortunately I cannot tell you which.
