that is what i was wondering, but i think it has somthing to do with how chesapeake land was fertile and was used for farming, but it was abused by people who grew tobacco on it, since tobacco wears out the land that it is grown on. In the the New England area they could not farm that much since the area had cold weather. they had to use lumber and wood to survive and stuff.

it influenced the way the English colonies developed by making the slaves plant crops in the south so the owners of the slaves make money.and by how some of the people in the colonies live really far away from the government so those people felt that they had more freedom. and sometimes they did not have to pay taxes. unlike the people who live in a big neighborhood right next to the government.

much of new England is made up of hills and low mountains, large areas are covered by forests, and the soil is thin and rocky, which makes farming difficult.

They were unfamilair with the land that was a disatveantage. They were better trained and equppet with more men, supplies, and expieince. The geography did not help the British as far as i am concerned.
