How did hull get the name Kingston Upon Hull?

Answer:
The town was originally named wyke on Hull, after the archbishiop of york john wyke and the local river was called the river Hull.

in 1299 the king granted the town a royal charter and became known as Kings town on the river hull

Or Kingston upon Hull as it is officially known now.
