How did Macbeth die in real life?

The historical Macbeth, after a peaceful and prosperous seventeen year reign, had to face an invasion of Malcolm Canmore, son of Duncan. Macbeth won the battle but was wounded and afterwards died of his wounds. He was succeeded by his stepson Lulach, who was less lucky against Malcolm.
